LAMENTATION AND WOE! LONG HAVE I WAITED IN THE BOWELS OF THE EARTH, WHILE THE OFFSPRING OF THOSE WHO BETRAYED ME WALKED UNDER THE LIGHT OF DAY, AND ATE THE FAT OF THE LAND, AND DRANK OF THE GOOD THINGS OF THE EARTH IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING. BUT NO MORE. THE TRAITOR'S DAY HAS COME TO AN END. NOW FALLS THE UNQUIET NIGHT, WHEN MY CHILDREN WILL GNAW THE BONES OF THE FAT CHILDREN OF THE DAY, AND MY OFFSPRING WILL DRINK THE BLOOD OF THE MEN OF THE EARTH UNDER A SUNLESS SKY. I AM TRAZYNEL, AND I HAVE RETURNED.
On February 11, Trazynel, an ancient Vampire Lord, was found by his servants in the Necropolis (027,016) and freed from his ancient prison. According to the Loremasters of Oraving, Trazynel was once a powerful lord of men. It was he who drove the beastmen underground, and established laws and justice, not just for the Vale, but for the whole island. But Trazynel became cruel and suspicious and -- some say -- descended into madness as his sword, the Fang of Vassuryn, corrupted him (although some say he corrupted it). He was overthrown by the Elven-king, and by the ancestor of Overlord Atheldard. Accordingly, he blames both of them and desires vengeance.
Settlements and Garrisons
The Undead Legions have no fixed settlements, but they enter play occupying the Overgrown Necropolis at 027,016. As of February 11, their current forces are:
- 210 Zombies
- 9 Spectres
- 3 Wraiths
Special Rules
Trazynel desires vengeance upon the living above all else. The Undead win the game if Oraving and Arbelladon fall.
The Undead feel neither cold nor heat, dry nor damp, and as such their movement speed is not hampered by the weather. However, they will only move at night (at the end of the initiative order) or when the weather is stormy (fog, snow, heavy rain).
Reinforcements
As of February 11, the Necropolis has been emptied of its dead (meaning all that can be raised as Undead have been).
The Undead may bolster their numbers in one of two ways: Defeating enemies in battle (50% of the BR of the defeated enemy force is raised as new Undead), or going to the sites of previous battles and spending 1d3 days raising the corpses of the slain to fight for Trazynel. Troops are raised as zombies or skeletons (determined randomly), and leveled characters such as officers are raised as ghouls, wraiths, and spectres (depending on HD). Any Undead of 4 HD or more can raise the dead in this way.
The bodies of Elves slain in battle can never be raised as Undead.
